The International Studies Center held its first meeting with the Asia-Pacific Development, Diplomacy & Defence Dialogue (AP4D) on 16 June 2022 to discuss the AP4D’s synthesis report on “Australia and Southeast Asia: Shaping a Shared Future”. The report outlines a new vision for Australia’s engagement with Southeast Asia that extends across government and society.

Ambassador Busadee Santipitaks, Thailand’s Ambassador to Australia, kicked off the event with introductory remarks. This was followed by a brief presentation of the report by Melissa Conley Tyler, its Program Lead. In the discussion, participants exchanged views on the report’s findings and recommendations, especially Australia’s position in the changing international environment, as well as possible areas of cooperation with ASEAN and Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand.
