On 23 September 2020, Dr. Charivat Santaputra, former Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and former Ambassador of Thailand to Germany, Egypt and Kenya, presented an introduction and anecdotes to his book "Thai Foreign Policy 1932 - 1946", which has recently been re-published by the International Studies Center.

Following Thailand's transition to constitutional monarchy, that particular period in Thai diplomatic history, which was the focus of Dr. Charivat's doctoral thesis at the University of Southampton, marked an important milestone. It was a period of profound political change in Thailand which brought in a group of new leaders, civilian and military, in foreign policy decision-making process.

Associate Professor Dr. Supamit Pitipat, Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University, and Assistant Professor Jittipat Poonkham, Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University, discussed various aspects of the book and highlighted that lessons learned from this particular period could be applicable to present days' perspectives.

The event was attended by scholars and students, as well as former diplomats and current officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
