On 20 April 2022, the International Studies Center joined with the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) and Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) in co-hosting the first regional experts dialogue on environmental peace-making in the Mekong River Basin, under the title “Transboundary Challenges and Cooperation on Climate Change in the Greater Mekong Region”. Participants, including climate change experts, development practitioners, and representatives of prominent think tanks from the riparian states of the Mekong River (Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam) discussed recent academic findings and debates regarding the connection between climate change and insecurity in the region as well as the existing regional governance mechanisms concerning climate change in order to identify policy gaps and to suggest potential remedies.
