On 24 June 2025, the International Studies Center (ISC) and International Relations Programme, School of Political Science and Public Administration, Walailak University co-organised a seminar on “Foreign Affairs through the People’s Lens” at Si Thammarat Auditorium, Architecture and Design Building, Walailak University. Associate Professor Dr. Charun Bunyakan, Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivered the opening remarks which was followed by a special talk on “Thailand’s Foreign Affairs: Continuity and Change” by Dr. Anuson Chinvanno, Director of ISC.
Five speakers, namely Associate Professor Dr. Jittipat Poonkham, Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University, Mr. Korakot Tetiranon, President of the Thai Chambers of Commerce in Surat Thani, Chumphon, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phattalung and Songkhla, Mr. Surapol Songrak, Executive Member of the Southern Peasants’ Federation of Thailand, Mr. Somboon Khamhang, Chair of NGO Coordinating Committee on Development and Mr. Wichoksak Ronnarongpairee, Chairperson of the Thai Sea Watch Association joined the panel discussion. Associate Professor Dr. Jittipat Poonkham opened the discussion by identifying changing global landscape and emerging issues in foreign affairs. The other panelists then focused on foreign-affairs-related issues pertinent to the Upper South of Thailand. The session was moderated by Dr. Krongkwan Traitongyoo, ISC Senior Analyst, and attended by approximately 200 faculty members and students of Walailak University.
