As part of their ongoing cooperation, the International Studies Center (ISC), Devawongse Varopakarn Institute of Foreign Affairs (DVIFA) and Casa Asia co-organised the 3rd Thailand-Spain Forum on 5 June 2025 at Narathip Auditorium, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. At the event, Mrs. Thitiporn Chirasawadi, Director of DVIFA, and Mr. José Pintor Aguilar, Director of Casa Asia delivered welcoming remarks. The keynote addresses were given by Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand and Mr. Luis Fonseca, Director General for North America, Eastern Europe, and Asia-Pacific, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Spain.
The Forum was organised under the main theme “Sustainability: Opportunities and Challenges”, with three sub-topics, namely “Climate Change: A Human Security Dimension”, Circular Economy: Upcycling and Recycling” and “The Future of Sustainable Development: The Role of Community and Youth”. Speakers discussed various impacts of climate crisis on human and national security and development. They shared their experiences and views on how to cope with the issue through socio-economic solutions, such as bio and circular models. They also suggested that, to be effective, the solutions should be from the “bottom-up” involving the communities and people.
In addition to the three academic sessions, the event showcased upcycling and recycling innovations by the private sector and social enterprises from Thailand and Spain, namely Chak Daeng Temple, RX Group, CHAAUM Studio and HORMESA Co., Ltd.
Approximately 120 participants, including several ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps, former Thai ambassadors, as well as distinguished guests from government organisations, the private sector, the media, think tanks and universities attended the event.
