On 26 January 2026, the International Studies Center (ISC) organised a launching event for the book “The Anglo-Siamese Negotiation 1900-1909” by Professor Emerita Dr. Thamsook Numnonda and a seminar on “Trade and Treaties EP. 2: The Path to Equality?”. At the event, Dr. Tej Bunnag, Secretary-General of Thai Red Cross Society and Chairman of ISC Advisory Board, gave a special talk on “Professor Emerita Dr. Thamsook Numnonda and her Unpublished Thesis”.
This seminar is related to the first seminar on “Trade and Treaties: Transformation of Siam(?)” on 5 September 2025, which discussed historical context and implications of the three Treaties between Kingdom of Siam and Great Britain, namely Burney Treaty, Bowring Treaty and Parkes Agreement.
Three panelists, namely Assistant Professor Dr. Papawadee Tanodomdej, Faculty of Law, Chulalongkorn University, Assistant Professor Akkharaphong Khamkhun, Pridi Banomyong International College, Thammasat University and Dr. Tanapong Luekajornchai, shared their views on the book. The discussion focused on historical context of Siam in 1900-1909 and the impacts of the treaties on economic and social developments of Siam. The session was moderated by Dr. Anuson Chinvanno, Director of ISC. Approximately 100 participants, including former ambassadors, diplomats, historians, scholars and university students attended the event.
