On 16–17 May 2026, Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Chairman of the Thailand National Committee for the Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (TNCPEC), and Dr. Anuson Chinvanno, Director of the International Studies Center (ISC) and Secretary of TNCPEC, attended the 33rd PECC General Meeting and the PECC Standing Committee meeting at the Shanghai Expo Centre in Shanghai, People's Republic of China.
During the General Meeting, Dr. Narongchai served as a panelist in the session titled "Deepening Openness: Key Spirit of APEC and Asia Pacific Community," where he shared insightful perspectives on fostering regional economic integration. Furthermore, on 17 May, he participated in the PECC Standing Committee meeting, a closed session for PECC members to deliberate on the Council's financial and administrative matters as well as its future direction and strategy.
Thailand has played a pivotal role in PECC since its inception, as one of the 11 founding economies, in 1980. Thailand hosted the 2nd PECC Meeting in Bangkok in 1982 which led to the establishment of APEC in 1989. Functioning as a unique tripartite partnership forum, PECC brings together senior representatives from government, business, and academia for independent and informal dialogues on regional economic policy issues. PECC remains the sole non-governmental official observer of the APEC process. It continues to serve as an anticipatory forum, providing evidence-based research and policy recommendations to advance economic cooperation and sustainable growth across the Asia-Pacific region.
